Sheffield Children’s Hospital launched the Pride of Yorkshire.
A region wide series of sculptures painted by selected artists around the area. It was one of my proudest moments to discover my proposed art was chosen. I literally jumped up and down on the spot. Something I haven’t done many times in my life.
The subsequent process was not disappointing, despite taking the best part of 3 months of work, which did in all fairness include moving both sculptures and everything else in my life to our new Gallery in the centre of Sheffield, it was a wonderful labour of love.
Ethel started out as a blank canvas, although we were asked to submit an idea of what we were going to paint.
Lots of thought and lots of materials went into the making of this lioness.
The Sheffield Maximalist squares as a work formed the basis for the second side of Ethel, the other side of the boundary she created that was to later form the edge of Sheffield and the start of the Peak District.
